Hill Palace

Spread over 54 acres, Hill Palace is the largest archaeological museum in Kerala.

his was was the imperial administrative office and official residence of Cochin Maharaja, later converted into a museum.

On the display are the collections of the Royal families, Oil Paintings , Sculptures and many curious artifacts.

The cluster of buildings itself is a great feast to experience. Do not miss the old bathing area, with an unusually long corridor leading to the stepped waterbody. This is on the northeast part of of the museum campus.

A little off, behind the the main building is a deer park. For the kids, this seems to be an exciting place compared to the museum exhibits.

The popular Malayalam movie Manichitrathazhu was shot here ( get to the old bath area & the stepped tank on the northeast side).

The Palace is open to public everyday from 10 AM to 12.30 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM. Closed on Mondays and national/state holidays.

Hill Palace Museum is located in Tripunithura, by the highway side when you drive from Ernakulam towards Kottayam.

From Ernakulam, catch any Tripunithura/Chottanikkara bound city bus. There's a bus stop right in front of the Hill Palace.

Thanneerchal Park & the religiously significant Chottanikkara Temple are nearby.

By the way, if your itinerary from Ernakulam includes place like Munnar, Kumarakom or Kottayam, you are most likely to drive past the Hill Palace museum. Add this as a quick detour!
