Tips for a one day whirlwind Kochi sightseeing

[#1]Start at Marine Drive and its environs.This is all about typical touristy action around walkways,parks and waterfront.
[#2]Take the ferry from the south end of Marine Drive to Fort Kochi or Mattancherry, the next stop.Your tour of Kochi is not complete without this local ferry, the part and parcel of Kochi's lifestyle.
[#3]Start with Jewish Synagogue,the Dutch Palace and the Jew Street area.This part of the city has a pleasant concoction of Portuguese, Dutch and Jewish heritage.
[#4]Have lunch at one of the traditional or heritage restaurants in Fort Kochi. There are many boutique cafes in the Fort Kochi & Mattancherry area, set in old mansions and bungalows.
[#5]Explore Maritime & Indo Portuguese Museum. Kochi has age old maritime trading and maritime tradition. Indian Navy Southern Naval base is in Kochi.
[#6]Visit Santa Cruz Basílica, Chinese Fishing Nets & Fort Kochi Beach.The fishing net actions & beach is best visited during the evening.Watch the sunset from the beach. This is the sean you see on the typical Kerala tourism brochure (Rows of fishing net with sunset as the backdrop)
[#7]Return to Ernakulam by ferry in the evening. If you still have time left, take a evening cruise (sun set & dinner cruise) at Marine Drive jetty.
Fort Kochi → Jankar Ferry to Vypin → rickshaw or local bus → Cherai Beach makes a good half day itinerary from Fort Kochi
Another longer itinerary option to explore the area is : Marine Drive → Regular Ferry → Fort Kochi attractions → Jankar Ferry to Vypin → rickshaw/cab or local bus → Cherai Beach → Return to Ernakulam by bus/cab . This is a bit hectic,but if you trim some of the items in Fort Kochi, you can make it in a day.
Fork Kochi has two ferry points Jankar Ferry ( people+vehicles) to Vypin island and the regular ferry. The are located somewhat nearby ( 10min walk).
Ernakulam has major traditional temples in the city and in Tripunithura and Chottanikkara. These are popular pilgrimage sites. The Hill Palace Museum is in Tripunithura ( on the way to Munnar)
